Tic • tock • tick • toc • tik • tok ??? • How much time do you spend checking out social media everyday? This is a question I ask myself everyday. It's hard to say, if you aren't tracking it. All that checking in every few hours, it all probably adds up to a ridiculous number. • And then I ask myself; "What was your purpose in using that time? Did it benefit you, strengthen you, add something useful to yours, or someone else's day?" Asking these questions helps me to limit my time and refine my intention in my online interactions. • I think about what my time is spent on, a lot, because time is your most valuable asset in life. Not squandering it, is something I'm working on. In an effort to further refine useful ways to utilize my time, I'm presenting a challenge to myself and to anyone who wants to join me. • Tomorrow I'm limiting myself to 10 minutes a day, yes, ONLY 10, for checking social media, or posting. Since I'm constantly writing and documenting life in various ways, this is going to be difficult for me. But, the point of this exercise is to re-funnel that time and effort into being present, reaching out and using my time in a more #conscious, #thoughtful and #appreciative way. • Each time I get the urge to click on my little social media app icons and quickly scroll through, I'm going to do something socially deliberate. This will include: engaging in a conversation with the nearest person to me and asking them about their day, picking up the phone and calling a friend I haven't spoken to lately (something I cringe at, I hate talking on the phone?), taking a ten minute walk outside, completing a task I've been putting off, or another #productive option. • This is a 7 day experiment. Just one of the many I subject myself to, in an effort to live in a healthier manner. Anyone care to join me and share what happened in those 7 days? My goal from this is to live more real life #connected and detach from a passive cycle of #communication. So, who's with me?? I think there is a lot to gain from this. • This is a picture I took to illustrate the importance of perspective. It's a lake reflection of the urban jungle that is Xiamen. #the10minuteproject
