Crooked House by Agatha Christie (1949) 34/50 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . "It is always a shock to meet again someone whom you have not seen for a long time but who has been very much present in your mind during that period." . Crooked House was one of Christie's favourites to write and it's evident in how racy the plot gets with all the typical twists and turns and suspenses that we all love. I read the last 100 pages in one sitting because I was so anxious to find out "who dunnit" (as always my speculation was wrong). . I remember reading somewhere that one of the reasons readers found "And Then There Were None" so unnerving was because there was no Poirot or Marple to guide us through. I found Crooked House similar in this respect, in a negative way because the narrator, Charles is such a weak character. I had to constantly remind myself that he was actually part of the story and this let it down for me a little bit. On the flip side of this there are some fantastically strong character in this story (but won't say who for fear of spoiling). . This wasn't actually high on my Christie #TBR but it was seeing the trailer to the film that made me want to read before the film comes out (although I think it's next year). Out of the 3 upcoming dramatisations of Christie's work this is the one I am looking forward to the most (must resist urge to slag off Sir Ken as Poirot ?). Crooked House has such a strong ensemble and I think the casting of Glenn Close as Magda and Christina Hendricks ? as Brenda is spot on ??
