Leigh Whannell comments on casting Kurt Russell's son, Wyatt Russell, as Snake Plissken in the ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK reboot. "Seems like the obvious thing to win the fans over.” Whannell was hired to write the script and it still remains uncertain if The Invisible Man and Upgrade director will take on the reboot. THE INVISIBLE MAN What a thriller this movie is. The Invisible Man is a reimagining of the classic Universal monster from the 1933 movie of the same name. The thriller film follows Cecilia(Elizabeth Moss) and her abusive ex-husband and renowned ophthalmology scientist,Adrian (Oliver Jackson-Cohen).When Adrian takes his own life and leaves her his fortune, she suspects that his death was a hoax and that he’s coming for her,all in the name of revenge.A series of coincidences begin that only Cecilia is witness to;her family or friendsdon’t believe her claims.Although, the introduction of Adrian’s brother adds an eerie and questionable role,it’s hard to pin-point the antagonist. Leigh Whannell does an amazing job at bringing the flick into the modern-day world, introducing a twist within the narrative of the classic "he said, she said”.It has a modern day feel regarding the relationship dynamics and touch on the science side of things, yet there are still some slight moments of predictability. However in saying that, there also some amazing techniques used throughout the film that really made it thriller-esque and induced a few screams from the audience in the cinema–the cinematography and simple filming angles certainly helped. For an example, with the camera panning across ceilings for a wide angle,it left the space open for any sort of surprises.(There’s a hint to prepare yourself!)The production value was also amazing. The way they made the audience and Cecilia ‘see’ the Invisible Man was impressive, invoking a sensory experience–think footprints in the sand. The soundtrack naturally helped too,by making simple scenarios high-pressure and an excruciatingly slow experience from floorboard creaks to flames igniting. While some of the performances felt a bit “meh”,Elizabeth Moss outdid herself and was an absolute standout. The way she portrayed the vast range of emotions of her character, often with minimal dialogue was outstanding. Her isolation and internal dialogue spoke louder than words could have. Overall,it was an average horror flick, but compelling thriller! Worth a watch, especially on the big screen. THE INVISIBLE MAN(4/5) In Cinemas FEB 27TH!!!!

Harrowingly confined, narratively satisfying, skillfully acted, and visually sleek -- ‘The Invisible Man’ exposes itself within the thriller genre in exhilarating form; with director Leigh Whannell in full command. . Written and directed by Leigh Whannell this horror/thriller film stars Elizabeth Moss and follows the story of a girl named Cecilia, who believes she is being stalked by her recently deceased ex-husband, Adrian - who is presumably, entirely invisible. . Writer/director Leigh Whannell stands at the forefront of this long adapted film series - can he succeed? What we do know is that his recent foray into sci-fi with his previous film ‘Upgrade’ (2018) proved he was a capable director, it is only now that we are given confirmation that he may be something much more. Yes, ‘The Invisible Man’ is a superb film. What can be said is that this adaptation stands on its own upon all the adaptations of ‘The Invisible Man’, moreover, it stands on its own within the thriller/horror genre. ‘The Invisible Man’ forces a suffocating sense of claustrophobia upon its viewers; there’s a never-ending sense that the character is being observed at all times - environments feel equal in potential danger no matter where they are or how crowded they are. Much like the horror film ‘It Follows’ (2014), there’s a constant itch that someone or something is coming for you to strike at any moment. We haven’t seen such levels of tension in high budget thrillers since ’10 Cloverfield Lane’ (2016). Leigh Whannell ensures that his character isn’t diseased by stupidity -- a plague that many horror protagonists seem to be infected with. The protagonist Cecilia is scared out of her wits, yes, but she will use her mind to get through tricky situations. This determined attitude is bolstered by a raw performance from Elizabeth Moss - who works on expressing fear at every layer it exists upon. Moss has a particular talent for making dialogue feel natural and authentic. Supporting roles all work brilliantly, with some lighter characters in the mix to soften the mood, and some more mysterious figures to add to the story’s mystique. . ⬇️ CONTINUE BELOW ⬇️
