I'm going for a new personal record, 6 Sundance films this year. I'm so excited! I'll be seeing 4 TBD movies as well as- "Moonlight Sonata: Deafness in Three Movements" a memoir about deafness told through the stories of a deaf boy growing up, his deaf grandfather, and Beethoven the year he went deaf. "Midnight Traveler" a documentary about Hassan Fazili and his family as they flee Afghanistan and seek asylum in neighboring countries after the Taliban assassinated the subject of a film he produced in 2015 and puts a price in his head. All filmed on his phone as it all unfolds. #sundancefilmfestival #sundance2019 #supportindependentfilm #independentfilm #moonlightsonata #midnighttraveler #documentary #memoir #gettingmyfilmon #gotmytickets
Moonlight Sonata: Deafness in Three Movements directed by Irene Taylor Brodsky is an interesting look at deafness in both the young & old on a very personal basis. Director Irene Taylor Brodsky shows her family up close & personal as they deal with their first born going deaf by the age of four. Similarly...her parents were both death and part of the movie surrounds their adjustment to wearing implants as well as their young son. The movie shows footage throughout of her son & centers around him learning to play Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata and the tie in to Beethoven writing the Sonata as he himself was going deaf. His opening quote was “Music is like a dream. One that I cannot hear”. My favorite scene was the Directors very likable father dealing with a very loud grandson screaming in his ear and him using his superpower (pulling off his hearing device) of deafness. I was touched by this intimate look at a young family dealing with a son being deaf and aging parents dealing with their reality of growing old and all that comes with it. The grandfather said he thought his life was better because he was deaf and after watching this documentary, I don’t doubt he is right. The Director/mom ends by pointing out they gave their son hearing but he had to find his voice. This Documentary gives you that journey. #irenetaylorbrodsky Photos courtesy of Sundance Institute. #sundancefestival #sundance #sundancetv #sff19 #sundancefilmfestival2019 #sundance2019 #documentary #documentaryfilm #documentaries #documentaryfilmmaking #documentaryfilmmaker #film #filmmaking #filmmaker #filmproducer #filmfest #filmindustry #sundanceorg
