*Artist of the Day* Mira Komatsu (1984- ) . Komatsu says, “Paintings connect people and me.” Born in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, the artist’s favourite subjects are divine beasts, particularly guardian dogs, which are often seen in Shinto shrines in Japan. She paints their diversity rooted in history and region. She entirely devotes herself to tackling her motifs. The strange, fantastic divine beasts in her painting look scary, yet, it look humorous at the same time; they are dynamic but also sensitive. Her paintings present a happy fusion and painstaking line drawing flourish in modern times. Her toughness and undaunted spirits are refreshing! . Recently, Komatsu was invited to create a movie set for a Japanese upcoming movie, “Flower and Sword” which soon will be premier at the theatre on June, 2017 . “Flower and Sword” is a story based on the period of Bunroku 3rd year (1594) in Japan, the movie is adapted from Tadashi Onitsuka same named novel. The play depicted the friendship between Senko Ikenobo, the monk who believes he can save ones life by using the power of Ikebana (Japanese Flower Arrangement), and the Chanoyu (Japanese tea ceremony) master Sen no Rikyū.
